Focus Hong Kong returns to BFI Southbank and The Garden Cinema for a June 2025 programme packed with new and classic films. The specially-curated selection gives audiences the chance to catch the very best of Hong Kong cinema on the big screen, from the UK Premieres of new restorations through to some of the biggest and best new releases, and beloved genre classics. BFI highlights include the UK Premiere of the new 4K restoration of Hong Kong 1941, Po-Chih Leong’s award-winning 1984 masterpiece, the UK Premieres of thriller Valley of the Shadow of Death and horror Possession Street, two of the most acclaimed Hong Kong films of the year, and a very special screening of the 1972 Shaw Brothers martial arts classic The Black Tavern.

At the Garden Cinema we’ve got the UK Premiere of For Alice, a neon-drenched noir tribute to the Hong Kong thriller genre, and a special screening of Philip Yung’s multiple award-winning Papa, a harrowing crime drama based on a shocking real life case.
